Re-amping is the process of taking a guitarists/bassists dry, unprocessed, unaffected recording track from another recording studio (or home studio) and feeding that signal into our “Re-Amping” box to re-record the the guitarist’s unprocessed performance through a dedicated guitar amplifier and/or external effects box(es). The guitar amplifier is placed in the live room or isolation booth of the recording studio and is set up to produce the desired tonal quality, including distortion character and room reverberation. A microphone is placed near the guitar speaker and a new track is recorded, producing the re-amplified, processed track. The microphone is connected to the mixing console or one of our high quality mic preamps of choice to capture the “vibe” your song calls for.
External effects such as stomp boxes and guitar multi-fx processors can also be included in the re-amping process. As well as physical devices that require an impedance-matched guitar pickup signal, software-based virtual guitar effects and amps can be included in the re-amping process as well.
There are many advantages to this technique, but the most obvious ones are that this gives the musician access to amps they couldn’t normally get their hands on, and this puts the duty of recording that amp in the right hands (ours) instead of someone who either doesn’t really know how to do it properly, or doesn’t have access to the right gear.
